WatchD.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) Overview

To all fathers and father figures, I am pleased to announce that at GRE the Watch D.O.G.S. program is in full swing. For the 2023-2024 school year, a new signup genius (SUG) with tabbed months, has been created with multiple time slots to allow for greater participation. For each time slot two volunteers can sign up. The new time slots and link to the 2023-2024 SUG are listed in the "What to Expect" section below.

Before your designated time slot, you will need to check in with the front office by ringing the bell at the front door. At this time, you will be given a radio, a badge and a Watch D.O.G.S. sticker. Please remember to bring good walking shoes, stretch and have a good attitude.

Meet Our Top DOG

Zach and his daughterFor Dads that are new to GRE, I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Zach Ingalls and I am the Top D.O.G. for the GRE Watch D.O.G.S. program. My daughter, Milena, is in third grade this year, which means I will be around for the foreseeable future. Please take some time to visit our GRE website site under the Clubs & Programs tab to learn more about the program and if you have any questions, you can email me directly at [email protected].

WatchDOGS t-shirtI look forward to meeting all the fathers, grandfathers and anyone who wants to participate as we work towards our goal of a dad a day. As an incentive, if you volunteer as a Watch D.O.G. four (4) times you will receive the coveted GRE Watch D.O.G.S. T-shirt. I will be checking the sign-up genius monthly. Note: the shirts run a small so go up a size.

What to Expect

To increase participation in the Watch D.O.G.S. program, we offer a variety of time slots that are listed below:

  • Before School Dog: 7:25-7:50 - Help with school parking lot crosswalk or Hug N Go
  • Lunch & Recess Dog: 10:25- 12:50 - Aid with Kindergarten to 5th Grade Recess – Have fun and play.
  • End of School Day Dog: 2:25-2:45 - Help with school parking lot crosswalk or Hug N Go
  • All Day Dog: 7:25-2:45 – There for the day. Apart from all activities mentioned above your schedule can be flexible. Spend time in your child's classroom, or pursue activities or subjects of interest to you, even art, music, or PE. If you're ever unsure where to go next, be sure to ask in the front office if any teachers have special requests for the Watchdog or help in the school library.

Typically, normal day for a Watch dog is an all-day event at the school. If you are unable to commit to the 7+ hours of the typical Watch dog day, please choose other available time slots. We would rather have more dads involved in some capacity than insist on having full-day volunteers only. Apart from student arrival, mid-day recesses and lunches, and student dismissal, your schedule can be flexible. Spend time in your child's classroom, or pursue activities or subjects of interest to you, even art, music, or PE. If you're ever unsure where to go next, be sure to ask in the front office if any teachers have special requests for the Watch DOG, or help out in the school library. On Fridays at 2:00 p.m. the Watchdog will oversee gathering the recycling from the classrooms with the help of students.
