Third Grade

Welcome to Third Grade!

Here's the 2019-2020 Raccoon Video:

Meet our teachers

Esther Frederick
Mrs. Esther Frederick
Mrs. Frederick moved to Colorado five years ago from the island of Oahu, Hawaii. She is married to Shaun and together they have three children, Troy (10), Annalise (7), and Johnathan (4). Mrs. Frederick earned her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Hawaii and decided to go back for her Masters degree in Elementary Education from Chaminade University. She has taught second through fifth grade, and is now excitedly teaching third grade here at Governor’s Ranch Elementary School. In her spare time she enjoys adventures with her family and friends to see all the beauty that Colorado has to offer. Another interest she has is in Robotics and problem based learning. She loves advising the Robotics Team, with her marvelous colleagues, to provide hands-on experience with robots. This is Mrs. Frederick’s fifth year at GRE and she is grateful and thrilled to be able to work with wonderful children, teachers, and families. School is an ohana (family) to Mrs. Frederick and she is blessed to be a part of the GRE ohana everyday!

Mrs. Hickey
Mrs. Ashley Hickey
Mrs. Hickey is excited to be teaching at Governor’s Ranch where she went to school once upon a time. Mrs. Hickey attended the University of Colorado Boulder for her undergrad and Regis University for her Master of Education degree. She has taught fifth and sixth grade over the course of the last nine years and is looking forward to the new adventure as she begins her tenth year teaching. She works with Scholastic Books as a Teacher Advisor to improve reading experiences for students in classrooms across the country. Mrs. Hickey is married to her college sweetheart, Brian, and they have two boys, Mason (4), and Bode (2). Outside of teaching, Ashley is passionate about running and reading. She is currently training for her tenth marathon - the New York Marathon and has a giant TBR (To Be Read) pile. She also enjoys cross-country and downhill skiing, cooking, and reading to her two boys (sharing Harry Potter can’t come soon enough).
 Mrs. Rootes Mrs. Amy Rootes
Mrs. Rootes has taught third grade every year except the last two since 2002. Prior to that she was in Douglas County and Sheridan where she taught fifth grade and was an intervention specialist. She began researching education when her first child was born with Down Syndrome. Along her way, she discovered a passion for the classroom and believes labels should not define a child but rather a child should be empowered to write his or her own story. Mrs. Rootes received her Masters of Education and Principal license in 2008 and planned on moving into administration. However, life had another plan for her and her empty nest husband and brought them Brayden. He is now 10 years old. She and her husband live in Castle Rock where they "attempt" to keep up with Brayden and enjoy visiting with their three other grown children and grand daughter. If she's not in her classroom, Mrs. Rootes and her husband are attending all the sports activities that come with a 10-year-old and traveling the world when time allows.
