Para Professionals

Meet our Para Professionals

Donna Dannen
Donna Dannen
Donna LOVES working at Governor’s Ranch Elementary as a Para-professional. After a varied career, most of it involving working with children, her part time aid position suits her wonderfully. She enjoys working with kids in small groups or one-on-one, and her current job fits that to a T.

Donna went to Ohio University and and studies elementary education and minored in Earth science. She was very interested at the time in mapping and geology. Summers found Donna working at the YMCA of the Rockies and fell in love with Colorado. She worked as a children’s counselor and later as a hike master (to adults) and camp counselor (for fourth, fifth, and sixth graders). After she moved permanently to Colorado, she worked for Rocky Mountain National Park, helping to set up its first school visit activities and environmental program for schools as a ranger-naturalist.

During this time she also worked with her husband to write numerous nature books for the Rocky Mountain Nature Association, worked as a free-lance media photographer for nature magazines, and had a several year stint as an Eastman Kodak liaison to Rocky Mountain National Park. The biggest assignment was with Reader’s Digest Travel Books, researching the (then) brand new National Parks in Alaska.

Her career came around full-circle when she moved to Evergreen and worked for 10 years at the Evergreen Country Day School. There she was a pre-kindergarten teacher, school photographer, and photography teacher for middle school.

Now, as a pre-retirement job, she has the wonderful position as para-professional at Governor’s Ranch!

Angela Shamis

Angela Shamis
Angela Shamis began working here at GRE in September of 2004 when her son Travis started Kindergarten. Although at the time she didn’t have experience working with kids (other than her own), she immediately learned that it was something she was passionate about and almost 14 years later she is still loving getting up and going to work every day! Her current position is the Special Education Building Support Paraprofessional, and her primary job is to work with small groups of students needing extra academic support, and at times working with students one-on-one. She has been married to her husband Mark for 22 years and when they are not working they enjoy spending time with family and friends going camping and taking beach vacations. She has two children Lindsay and Travis, both of whom attended GRE, and two furry friends Dusty and Niko.
